Maramataka

The Maramataka, which literally means ‘the moon turning,’ is the Māori lunar calendar, and is the traditional Māori way by which time was marked.

Instead of following the movement of the sun throughout the year, iwi communities in history noted the movements of the moon over a typical month and year.

Each phase of the moon was named and each typical year was marked by the passage of 12 or 13 lunar months (depending on the location throughout the country

Orienteering experience

I have completed 6 hours of orienteering for an outdoor project

We did six days of hard courses at school.

My outdoor experience with orienteering was hard as I found reading the map and compass difficult. I found it easy with the running to the markers. We had to find either 10 or 13 markers and trying to finish my teams start and finish time each day. We had to get all the letters on the markers correct all the time  and the markers will be far from all the other ones.

The skills i learnt was reading map features, contours, compass and learning orinteering rules.

Technolgy& basketball training

Yesterday I went to tech and I had Yr 8 sewing and Yr 8 cooking. We are making a bag in sewing and and a casadea in cooking with a raisin salad with carrots. It was really fun but than it was raining while we waited to get on the bus.

When we were going back to school it was raining still. We got to school and went to our classroom ate lunch and after we did basketball training. It was medium we did drills and a fun game, it's like a showdown game in a square and the square gets smaller ever minute so it makes it harder.

I liked basketball training.

Today at maths

Today at maths we did a 100 qeustion test and it was timed for 10 minutes and i got 6:53 and my score out of 100 was 84 and thats fine for me that means i just have to work a little bit harder on maths and then i will get 100 out of 100 and i need to get 4 minutes thats my goal to get 100 100 and 4 minutes.

Reading

In reading we have been learning about main ideas with supporting details and how to find them in the text. The first sentence is the main idea and the rest I have to look for and decide whether they are supporting details.
